Review Prince Among Slaves

Review the film Prince Among Slaves. This can count as one of your required reviews. What does the story of the Prince Abdul Rahman tell you. The film is produced by Michael Wolf a convert to Islam and the narrator, Mosdef, a well known actor-rapper, is also a Muslim. Clearly this is an example of how American Muslims are beginning to tell their story in America. What characteristics of this discourse can you detect.

The Little Mosque on the Prairie

Please make your occasional observations of the show here.  Depending on the progress we make in the class, we may watch a few more episodes. I want you to focus on issues of identity, on aspects of how faith informs life and politics and the issues of difference and diversity that come up so frequently.

Here is an example of how to develop a photo-story

Here is an excellent example of a photo-story. Your projects on oral history of Islam in Delaware should be like this except for those who choose to go the video route. Click here to see [you may need to register for NY Times before you can view it].

Welcome to POSC430

Dear Students, Welcome, Ahlan wa Sahlan, Khush amadeed.

We are about to enter the "hearts and minds" of American Muslims. We shall explore US relations with Islam inside and outside the territorial boundaries of our great democracy. We will try and understand the complex dynamics of politics, emotions, economics, cultural convergence and divergence that shape US-Muslim relations. We will learn, we will engage and above all we will have a lot of fun as we deal with an other that, surprisingly, is so integral a part of our self.
